Burnett’s paintings are clean, colorful compositions that deliver moments of blissful aesthetic contrasted with dissonant elements that confuse the eye and break the painting’s sense of harmony. The composition acts as a visual analogy for the complex systems of nature and human kind. Marks, shapes, and color
establish rules of format and then break their own rules creating structured and highly technical, though interrupted and imperfect, compositions. All the brush work of these incredibly precise compositions is achieved without the use of tape or stencil.
